My name is Joanna Creek and I make unique artisan jewellery, mostly from ceramic. Many of my designs are inspired by where I live and work – rural Ceredigion in beautiful West Wales. All my jewellery is made and decorated entirely by hand.
After forming a pendant, brooch or earring component from fine white clay, I imprint my design. When dry, I sand the back and sides and round off the corners to ensure they are super smooth. They then have their first firing. Next I apply washes of colour to the background and paint in the detail using under-glazes, finally applying a transparent glaze, before firing again to earthenware. Being glazed all over they are smooth against the skin whilst retaining the texture of the imprinted design. The result is a pleasantly tactile item.
The final stage is adding the chain, brooch-back or other findings then boxing them up, and they're ready to go!
All my earrings have sterling silver ear wires or studs.
Most of my pendants come on an 18" silver-plated snake chain, but I can swap them to another length chain or a non-metallic cord - just ask!
All my jewellery comes in a hand-stamped box.
Incredibly light - ideal for earrings – I hand make my fabric beads from my favourite scrumptuous fabrics. These are teamed up with glass and metals beads for necklaces, earrings and bracelets. The end result is a striking and varied range of very wearable pieces.
